Well, Easter has come and passed, and spiritually, the holiday didn’t feel like anything special. Truth be told, I was and still am feeling a little depressed. I am not sure if any holiday should feel like anything. Why should it? I asked myself what I was hoping for, but I can’t seem to come up with an answers?

I read from the Bible this morning. Reading Luke chapter 24, I read about the two men who were walking along a road to Emmaus. They were sad and depressed over the recent crucifixion of Christ three days earlier. They were also confused over the reports from the women who first found the tomb empty and told of seeing a vision of an Angle that had told them that Jesus was alive.

Even with the good news, they were still downcast. The story goes on to tell that Jesus actually joins them and walks with them to Emmaus. Jesus joins their conversation and asks them what is wrong. Not recognizing who He is, they go on to tell the story of the crucifixion. (I wonder what what was it that they were hoping for?) It wasn’t until later that evening, while Jesus was having dinner with them that they recognized who he was, at that point He disappeared.

This story reminds me that the wholeness of Christianity is found within the relationship with Jesus. It’s not about a day, a service, eggs, bunnies or Santa Clause.

Here in this story, two men, heartbroken and confused ended up having a real and honest conversation with Jesus, which involved prayer, and it was this way that they were able to see Jesus and their spirits were lifted.

" We are shaped by our experiences. Our perception of joy, fear, pain, and beauty are shaped or dulled by the way we rub against time"
