Lent season is upon us and Easter will be here before we know it. Practicing Lent is a rather new ritual to me. A few years ago I gave up alcohol for Lent, which was spiritually rewarding. I have found that practicing Lent has been good for my spiritual heart, my soul and my walk with God. This year we are going to fast as a family. We are not going to turn on the computer or the T.V. on Fridays. I will not allow myself to surf the web while at work either; that would be cheating. By giving up T.V. and the computer on Fridays, it will make us focus on doing more family related actives, such as board games, which in my household consist of Hungry Hungry Hippos and Candy Land. Also, I believe it will help us put a few things like T.V., cable, internet, a home computer and the other luxuries in prospective, as we truly are blessed to have such processions, while so many don’t. I have been thinking about Matthew 6:19-21 lately. I don't want to be a person caught up in possessions and with the possessions I do have, I want to be thankful and willing to share them. In the end, its not like you can take any of this stuff with you. "From dust you came and it's dust you shall return". My prayer for this Lent season is that a humble and thankful heart is renewed.
